Recent comments by Elon Musk has us wondering, will Twitter become the new OnlyFans? As everyone knows by now, unless you’ve been living under a rock, Elon Musk purchased Twitter. Elon knows while Twitter is a juggernaut it can be so much more, and as a result he plans on rolling out a ton of new features over the next year. One of the features he mentioned is the ability for creators to monetize their content on Twitter. That’s really, really, REALLY big news for adult content world.
Now lets temper this announcement by noting these are just comments from Elon and nothing official has come out. While Twitter allows adult content, it doesn’t mean that Twitter will allow adult content to be sold on the site. There are certainly laws and regulations that would need to be considered. Twitter allows adult content today because Twitter is merely a hosting site, when you boil it down, and doesn’t produce the content members post to the site. The game changes if Twitter starts taking payment for adult content transactions on the site, and that’s where the laws come in. I’m sure there are ways to make it all work, and it will be interesting to see what happens.
But, if Twitter finds a way and does allow for creators to sell their adult content on Twitter it will be a complete game changer. Many of the features you find on today’s fan sites are not integrated within Twitter, but it would only be a matter of time until those features are integrated. Many of the fan sites today are modeled after the look and feel of Twitter, so Twitter is already half way there to being a complete fan site. Elon overpaid for Twitter and wants to monetize Twitter as quickly as possible and he knows how lucrative OnlyFans is and that he has the ability to bring all that revenue over to Twitter.
All that being said, with the potential hurdles of adult content, adult content creators may be shut out of the content monetization features Twitter rolls out. This would extend the injustice and annoyance we, as the adult content community, experience on a day-to-day basis from many financial, platform and other institutions around the world.
With the tech and monetary resources Elon has I would place my bet on Twitter to find a way to pull it off and allow for the monetization of content from adult content creators. This would surely, maybe, crown Twitter the king of adult fan sites. What are your thoughts? Comment below.
